We don’t say having a fit of laughter, but having a crazy laughter [avoir un fou rire].
(Or a proper description of how Amélie once disturbed her office mates laughing to tears just for having had the thought of a stationery-obsession ranking of 517ers.)
To be more precise, we can have a fit of it, but it has to be having a fit of crazy laughter [avoir une crise de fou rire].
